Mum divides opinion after refusing to let 15-year-old daughter fly by herself | The Sun

A MUM has refused to let her 15-year-old daughter get on a plane by herself – but it has left people divided.

The 45-year-old woman asked on Reddit if she was in the wrong.

She explained that her daughter wanted to get on the plane to see her friend.

The mum explained: "My eldest, 15 year old daughter wants to go on a plane by herself to spend time with a friend she does not see very often.

"I did not think it was safe for her to fly on her own because she has not flown since she was a baby."

She also added that she has tried to run away twice, as well as failed two of her classes.

The mum ended by saying:"Her father who has always wanted to be the fun parent, agreed to allowing her to fly alone and to pay for the trip. He did this prior to talking to me."

Some people said she didn't need to worry about her daughter.

One said: "While I understand your worry for safety the majority of my family has flown alone before the age of 16 and been fine.

Another said: "I flew back and forth between Winnipeg and Minneapolis, alone, every two months or so for visitation purposes. It was really cool, I never had any issue."

Others suggested letting her fly as an unattended minor, which would mean they are assigned an airline staff member to keep an eye on them.

However, most people were on the mum's side.

One person commented: "She doesn’t sound mature enough to trust flying alone."

Someone else agreed: "If she were a responsible well behaved dependable teen, I would say yes. This girl sounds just the opposite."

It's not the first time people have been divided online.
