New Legoland theme park to open in Europe in 2027 – and it’s bigger than the UK resort | The Sun

A NEW Legoland theme park is opening in Europe – and it's going to be bigger than the UK resort.

Merlin Entertainments Group has confirmed the new Legoland will be built in Belgium, near Charleroi Airport.

UK flights to Charleroi Airport are just 1hr40, and start from as little as £9.99 so it is great news for families wanting a budget break.

Set to open to guests by 2027, the park will cover 70 hectares when it first opens which is larger than Legoland Windsor's 61 hectares.

There are also plans for an additional 20 hectares for further development.

The €400million project will be built on a former industrial site in Gosselies.

John Jakobsen, Merlin's COO for Legoland Resorts Group, said: "This is another exciting ‘building block’ laid for bringing a potential Legoland Resort to the many Lego Fans across Wallonia, Benelux and Northern France.

"We will continue to work closely with the Walloon Government and the City of Charleroi and our stakeholder partners at SOGEPA, SFPI and SORESIC to hopefully make this vision an awesome reality.”

It is will be the fourth standalone Legoland theme park in Europe, following Legoland Billund, the first to open in 1968, Legoland Günzburg in Germany and Legoland Windsor, which opened in 1996.

A Legoland Water Park opened in Gardaland in Italy last year, while there are also parks in Florida and New York.
