Passenger slammed by fuming traveller for not giving up empty seat despite having paid for it – but people are divided | The Sun

A WOMAN was slammed for not giving up an empty seat on a flight despite having paid for it – but people are divided.

She asked on Reddit if she was in the wrong, after she was forced to fly by herself when her son tested positive for Covid.

This meant she had a spare seat on the 3am flight after her son was forced to quarantine.

She wrote: "Since I was supposed to have my son with me, I had a extra plane seat next to me.

"I hate traveling cause it's so uncomfortable [so] I was pretty excited to have a extra plane seat so I can sit comfortably."

Having both the middle seat and the window seat, she said she sat by the window and put her stuff in the middle.

However, the passenger next to her quickly complained.

She continued: "The lady next to me said I'm not allowed to take two seats but I told her I actually paid for both seats.

"She then asked if she can take my extra seat cause she said she's overweight and pregnant and the airplane seats are uncomfortable for her.

"I told her she can have it as long she pay me for the seat. She tried to get the flight attendant to give my seat up but I showed her that I bought both seats."

The woman finished by saying the passenger called her nasty names and looks for the rest of the five-hour flight, and asked if she was in the wrong.

People on Reddit were conflicted, with some questioning her own behaviour.

One person asked: " Couldn't you have shared the middle seat by putting up the armrests? Then you both would have had half a seat of extra space."

Another person said: "You gave up any claim to a second seat when your son did not board the plane."

However, lots of other people said she wasn't in the wrong.

One person said: "You paid for the seat. For all she knows you could have a condition that makes travel uncomfortable.

Another person agreed: "Good for you for staying strong. People like her that act so entitled also lie to get their way."
