Prices for many of the most visited destinations including St Ives, Whitby, Llandudno and Brighton have rocketed this summer in comparison with last year.

With many of us looking forward to a UK getaway, as lockdown looks set to end just in time for summer, Brits have been rushing to book their getaways.

But, as money.co.uk’s consumer spending expert Salman Haqqi explains, this could lead to overcrowding and difficulty adhering to social distancing rules.

Not only are the 'safecation' destinations cheaper, they could also host 669 per cent more visitors than traditional UK escapes.

The safecation score is based on space, activities, dog friendliness, beaches, accommodation, crime rate, visitors per year to the county and cost to visit.
