After nearly two years, Australia is going to reopen its borders to double vaccinated tourists on February 21.
The nation was closed off from the rest of the world in March 2020 as the pandemic reached a fever pitch.
Now that Aussie holidays are back on the table, here’s a quick list of some sights on our travel wish list…
See the Great Barrier Reef
Checking out the world’s largest coral reef is on bucket lists all over the globe for a reason.
Whether you’re a snorkeller or a diver, after a day trip or a longer tour, seeing the reef is a must.
Take a luxury train tour
With tours of towns and views over the outback, The Ghan is famous for taking travellers on one of the best train journeys in the world.
You can travel in style for between three and four days, enjoying tasty all-inclusive food and wine, and tours through Alice Springs and Katherine.
If you take the trip between April and October, the journey goes on for an extra day and hits Coober Pedy too.
Check out the Melbourne laneways
The Central Business District of Melbourne has a host of lanes that mostly date from the Victoria era.
Great for exploring, these lanes contain multitudes – from rooftop bars to clothing boutiques.
Climb Sydney Harbour Bridge
Yes, you can climb the Harbour Bridge, day or night depending on which package you choose.
It can be a little costly, but the views look well worth it.
Party at Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world attend Mardi Gras in Sydney each year.
Over the years, performers have included the likes of Kim Petras, Courtney Act, Dua Lipa, George Michael, Kylie Minogue and Cher. Enough said.
Make friends with a quokka
If you want to see some especially adorable wildlife, Rottnest Island is the place to go.
There, you’ll find quokkas, which are famously unafraid of humans and often let people approach them for photos.
Just don’t forget that these happy-go-lucky looking creatures are still wild animals – you cannot handle them, you shouldn’t feed them as they can get sick easily, and they have been known to bite on occasion.
Sunbathe on Four Mile Beach
Currently rated the best beast in Australia on Tripadvisor, Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas is perfect for fans of clear water and golden sand.
Buildings nearby have been tucked away behind the row of the swaying trees, so beach-goers get the feeling of being totally away from it all.
