Summer 2021: Visit pop-up glampsites, restaurants and events across the UK

Sometimes good things don’t last forever, and that’s certainly true of these events.

From a low tide party on the Isles of Scilly to meeting an adorable Shetland pony at a posh London hotel, these certainly aren’t opportunities that come up very often.

But they’re well worth a try.

And if you play your cards right, you’ll have scheduled in the perfect summer of fun.

Interested? You’ll have to be pretty speedy to book a spot, so get clicking.

The indie one

Camp Elwood

When: July 26-August 9

Where: Holkham, Norfolk

What: Bringing a slice of retro Americana to the Norfolk coast, Camp Elwood offers a curated pop-up campground and lodgings in the grounds of 18th-century Holkham Hall.

With access to the beach and forest walks, it offers a host of wholesome activities, as well as good food – from stacked Southern platters and Texan-style BBQ, to vegan dishes – cocktails and craft beers, live music and more.

Stays are from three to seven nights, whether in your own tent, caravan or motorhome, or in a hip bell tent.

How: Four nights pitch and park from £245. Head here for more details

The foodie one

The Scenic Supper

When: Wednesdays to Saturdays from now until September 25

Where: Todenham Manor Farm, near Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire

What: Back again after last summer’s successful response to Covid restrictions, it offers a delicious set menu in one of seven bespoke, socially distanced glasshouses that seat up to four people, with sweeping views over the Cotswold Hills.

Expect modern British dishes such as barbecued hispi cabbage, suckling pig with braised endive and lemon tart with raspberry sorbet, while the al fresco King Stone Gin Bar will whip up cocktails, as well as serving wine and beer.

How: Lunch £100 for two, dinner £260 for four. Head here for more details

The cute one

Teddy the Shetland’s Overnight Stay

When: August 16-31

Where: The Goring Hotel, London

What: While some hotels have artists in residence, royal favourite The Goring will have a Shetland pony in residence for two weeks.

You’ll have the chance to meet Teddy, enjoy a Teddy-themed afternoon tea (carrot cake and polo-mint-infused scones included), and a full English breakfast the next morning.

How: From £585pn. Head here for more details

The unique one

Low Tide Event

When: October 7

Where: Between the islands of Tresco and Bryher, Isles of Scilly

What: When the tides recede enough – which happens around three times a year – the channel between these two islands is dry enough to cross on foot, which is perfect for a pop-up party.

There will be a gin bar, fresh fish and seafood, snacks and cake stalls. Expect live music and games, too.

How: Entry is free, head here for more details. Ferry from Penzance £30 return.

The riverside one

Henley Festival’s Summer Fling

When: July 8-10

Where: Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire

What: As a little preview to the annual Henley Festival, which will be returning in full glory in September, this pop-up party will give guests a taster of what to expect ahead of the main event.

It will feature live DJ sets each night from the likes of Martin Kemp, Trevor Nelson and Jo Whiley, along with a vintage funfair, street food, bars and, intriguingly, roving entertainers.

How: Tickets cost £50pp. Head here for more details.

The Ibizan one

Pikes at Marston Park

When: July 16-19, August 13-15, Sept 10-13

Where: Frome, Somerset

What: Can’t get to the White Isle? Let it come to you with a series of decadent weekends hosted by rock ’n’ roll hotel Pikes in this beautiful park.

Expect performances from world-class DJs, holistic and creative workshops, well-being sessions and cultural talks.

Food will be overseen by chef Richard Turner from Hawksmoor and Pitt Cue & Co, alongside local food trucks. A lakeside bar will be open until late.

How: From £1,140 for three days in a bell tent (sleeps two), inclusive of all weekend entertainment. Head here for more details

The relaxing one

Feel Good Weekends

When: June 18-20, July 9-11

Where: The Lawrenny Estate, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Wales

What: The Big Retreat Wales is launching new Feel Good Weekends. The getaways will start with a salt-water swim guided by coach Laura Owen Sanderson of We Swim Wild. Plus there’ll be woodland walks, forest bathing, wild food foraging, stargazing sessions and more.

Accommodation includes rustic, luxury bell tents, stargazing tents with outdoor bathtub, or geodomes with wood-fired hot tubs.

How: From £350pp, including all (plant-based) food. Head here for more details
