Tenerife hotel guests told ‘go back to bed’ after video shows them taking sunbed hogging to extreme levels | The Sun

A COUPLE of "sunbed warriors" have been filmed unstacking the beds at a resort, so they can put their towels out earlier than anyone else.

The summer holidays always bring scenes of poolside pandemonium, with hotel guests battling for the best spots early in the morning.

However, one couple in Tenerife took things even further in their quest to have a bed reserved, by doing the resort staff's job of unstacking the sunbeds themselves.

Usually, the beds would be positioned around the pool by hotel workers before guests lay down their markers.

However, the couple were seen beating them to the punch by getting up at the crack of dawn to pick their beds out themselves.

The pair were branded "sunbed warriors" by another hotel guest, known as Mr Kipling (@mr_kipling76) on Tiktok.

Another said: "A big reason I stick to villas and AirBnBs now, no need to do this ever."

There are some unwritten etiquette rules regarding the blocking of sunbeds at resorts, that some guests are apparently not aware of.

Etiquette and elegance expert Katarina, who shares her expert opinions about manners on TikTok at @katarina.etiquette, says guests need to be less selfish and more considerate of others.

In a video, she said: "If you're staying at a hotel, avoid blocking the sunbeds if you're not planning on staying.

"It's disrespectful toward other guests.

"Unless the hotel has a reservation system in place, only occupy the sunbeds when you're staying by the pool."

Katarina isn't the only person to offer an opinion on the subject, with another etiquette expert, William Hanson, claiming that there reserving sunbeds is okay, so long as it's done reasonably.

He told Sun Online Travel: "In the morning, at the start of the day, and you're by the pool after breakfast, then it's fine at 8.30 to put your towel on the bed to reserve your spot.
