The best low-cost airlines in the world revealed – and three in the UK make the list | The Sun

THREE UK-based airlines have been named in the top ten low-cost airlines in the world.

The Skytrax 2022 World Airline Awards took place recently and saw Ryanair, easyJet and Jet2 named among the best budget carriers.

AirAsia took the top spot, ahead of Scoot in second, but Ryanair came a very respectable fourth in the list.

Although technically an Irish company, their base at Stansted means they are also considered to be UK-based.

Following not far behind were easyJet in seventh and Jet2 in eighth.

The awards, considered to be ‘the Oscars of the aviation industry’ were handed out after 14 million people from more than 100 countries cast their ballots for their favourite airlines.

It wasn't a good night for UK airlines overall however, with Virgin Atlantic's 'Best Premium Economy' the only top spot picked up by a British carrier.

No UK airlines were named among the airlines with the best cabin staff, nor did they feature in the list of cleanest airlines.

Virgin and British Airways both made the top 20 airlines for best in-flight entertainment.

BA was rated the 11th best airline in the world overall.

Qatar Airways was voted the World's best airline for the seventh time at the awards.

Ryanair recently earned the respect of holidaymakers after they had overbooked one of their flights.

Ash Reid, from Glasgow, and her partner had travelled to Costa Adeje in Tenerife for a relaxing holiday last month.

And they were treated to a free extra day by the budget airline after their plane back to the UK was oversold.

The couple were able to enjoy an extra night of cocktails at their hotel and topped up their tans with another beach day before heading to the airport again.

Recalling the incident on TikTok, the glam mum-of-two (@ashreid_) said: "Ryanair didn’t have enough space for us on the way home.

"So they gave us an extra day on holiday. We didn’t expect that…"
