A road trip is the perfect way to explore an area – stopping off and soaking up the sights along the way.
Recently, the world’s most underrated road trips were revealed – with plenty of locations to add to a bucket list.
But now some of the best ones closer to home are in the spotlight, too.
To mark English Tourism Week, the experts at Vanarama have rounded up the top 10 UK road trips on Brits’ bucket lists.
From stunning national parks and the Scottish Highlands, to the peaks of Wales, there’s something for everyone on the list.
So if you’re planning a staycation this summer, this list could help you decide your destination.
Coming in first place is the Lake District, with 37,200 yearly searches on YouTube.
Some of the popular driving routes in this region include the Keswick Loop via Buttermere and Borrowdale, Grasmere to Windermere, and Ambleside to Ullswater.
Snowdonia in Wales scooped second place, with 25,000 yearly searches. The 823-square-mile national park stretch, which features nine mountain ranges, is great for experiencing diverse landscapes.
Scotland’s North Coast 500 came in third position. The 516-mile route starts and ends at Inverness Castle and includes beautiful coastal scenery. It’s recommended that drivers take at least five days, if not longer, to complete this trip.
The Peak District follows close behind in fourth place, while Black Mountain Pass in the Brecon Beacons scoops the fifth spot.
