GETTING bitten by mozzies can ruin any holiday, especially if they flare up and get infected.
However, there is a cheap way to avoid getting bitten – but you won't like it.
A study found that drinking beer can make you more prone to bites.
The study in the Journal of the American Mosquito Control Association found that the ethanol in beer attracts the annoying insects.
As you drink, the ethanol is then released in your sweat – which is what the mosquitoes like.
You don't even need to drink much for this to happen – the research found that less than a pint can increase the likelihood of geting bitten.

So if you find yourself getting ravaged on your holiday, you might want to put down the beer.
It isn't just what you drink that could be attracting them either.
Another study found that certain soaps can increase the likelihood of mosquito bites.
New research revealed that mosquitos were drawn to those who used Dove or Simple Truth soaps.

However, they were put off by coconut-scented brands such as Native.
Senior author Dr Clement Vinauger said: "It's remarkable the same individual that is extremely attractive to mosquitoes when they are unwashed can be turned even more attractive to mosquitoes with one soap – and then become repellent or repulsive to mosquitoes with another soap."
To be on the safe side, make sure to always was insect repellent if you are in a high-risk area.
Most bites in popular holiday hotspots are risk-free and only cause irritation and itching.
But in some countries, there is the risk of getting bitten by a mosquito carrying malaria, dengue fever or yellow fever.
