The clever way to get a 4* hotel breakfast for as little as £3 | The Sun

A HOTEL breakfast can be one of the best treats while on holiday, but they can also set you back a bit.

Some can cost as much as £78 – but we've revealed how you can get fancy brekkies for as little as £3.

Many hotels now sign up to the Too Good To Go app, which sells off their buffet breakfast after service is over.

This means you'll need to have a later-than-usual breakfast – many of them offer the bags from 10:30am to 11:30am.

However, we found some for as little as £3 – with a lot of food to choose from – and all you need to do is reserve the bag then flash the app.

We tried out three hotels near London Bridge offering the breakfast bags and ranked them.

Mercure London Bridge Hotel – £3.09

The cheapest one I could, the 4* Mercure London Bridge hotel is found just behind Borough Market.`

After finding the restaurant tucked at the back, it was the shortest wait time of the three of them.

It was definitely worth the money although had the least variety compared to the others.

Inside the box was a large mound of scrambled eggs, as well as two fried eggs, loads of mini hash browns as well as mushrooms, bacon and sausages.

The hash browns were the highlight, and the eggs were surprisingly still tasty and hot.

Citizen M, Bankside – £4.99

The priciest option, Citizen M was also the most generous.

The staff were definitely the friendliest, and were the only ones who hadn't premade the bag.

Inside was a huge box of hot buffet food including scrambled eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, bacon and sausages.

But there was also two huge croissants, a chocolate twist and pain au raisin, along with two pieces of bread (which I could have brown or white).

They even said I could have anything else extra like cheese or salmon although I declined after having so much.

After asking how they make the bags up, he said they pretty much just threw anything in they had leftover – of which they had a lot.

The Dixon Hotel – £3.99

Also a 4*, the Dixon Hotel was the one I was most excited about, being in a beautiful old Grade-II listed building.

The breakfast came from on-site restaurant Prosvisoners, a very Insta-friendly brunch stop.

While a smaller portion than the Citizen M, there was more variety that the Mercure Hotel, with a hot box of sausages, huge mushrooms, tomatoes and sausages.

There was also a pot of beans, a pot of yoghurt, a pear and some mini pain au chocolates, which were definitely the tastiest.

Verdict

Out of all three of the boxes, the best was definitely Citizen M – the hotel staff were so friendly and chatty, and gave the most food.

Not only that but they let you pick more bits to add if you wanted it.

It may be the priciest on the list – £4.99 compared to the cheaper £3 – but that is still only about the cost of a croissant or two from Pret.

The app told me each breakfast was actually worth £12 so it is a huge bargain.

It's also a great way to get something filling when visiting the city for the day, as I definitely didn't need to eat anything else until dinner.

Lots of UK cities use the Too Good to Go app, as well as lots of cities in the US so you can save on your next visit to the states.
