WITH fantastic seaside views and incredible water sports – it's no surprise that Dunmore East is popular with tourists year in year out.

And it's been dubbed as one of the best spots in Ireland for fish and chips.


Dunmore East is a tiny village in Co Waterford. The 354 bus route from Waterford city to Dunmore East, runs seven days a week and makes the stunning village easily accessible to visitors.

It is also one of the prettiest towns in Ireland – with it's colourful thatched houses and it's fabulous beach.

The seaside town is the ideal spot for a getaway with the kids this summer.

The village, once known as Dun Mor, which means "big fort" in Irish, was used by people in old times as a place to protect themselves from enemies.

People from the Iron age built a large promontary fort overlooking the sea on the cliffs to defend themselves, hence why it was called the big fort.

The glorious coastal walk is steeped in history and even dates back to the 1820s, when the harbour was constructed.

The walk begins at a connecting bridge, from the car park to the Flat Rocks and if you follow all the signs a set of steps will guide you to the walkway.

The linear walk is 5km long and is suitable for all ages.

There are plenty of viewing points along the way – make sure to stop at the breathtaking Bishops Cave and the Portally Cove.

The stand out moment in the walk, of course, is the view of the Hook Lighthouse in Co Wexford, which is the oldest operating lighthouse in the world.

ADVENTURE SPORTS

Fancy a day of sporting activities? Dunmore has got you covered.

With one of the finest Adventure Parks in the country, Dunmore Adventure boasts some of the most enjoyable water sports – the kids are sure to have the time of their life.

BEACHES GALORE

In Dunmore East, there are six beautiful coastal coves you can visit.

The two most popular beaches in the area are Councillors Beach and Lawlors Beach – both located in the heart of the village.

The two beaches are sheltered and are very popular with tourists and locals alike.

All of the beaches in Dunmore East are suitable for swimming, except Saleens, so visitors are advised to be weery if they decide to enter the waters.

LIVELY VILLAGE

The charming little village of Dunmore is also renowned for it's pub life and the "Strand Bar" is a favourite with tourists.

With one side of the pub made for a younger crowd with a pool table and another side with traditional Irish music playing all day – for those hearty Irish music lovers.

Don't forget to stop by at the East Pier, where you'll find the famous fish and chips.
