The simple Spain mistake that could see you fined £174 while on holiday | The Sun

BRITS on holiday in Spain face huge fines up to €200 (£174) for making a very simple mistake.

Renting a bike while on holiday is a great way to get around a resort or beach.

However, make sure to leave the headphones off – or you'll risk being left hundreds out of pocket.

Cycle SOS's Lena Farnell explained: "Current Spanish law, which was updated in 2014, states that you cannot cycle whilst listening to music through headphones or earbuds.”

“Cyclists who are caught wearing earphones can expect to pay a €200 (£174) fine in Spain."

She said the laws are in place for safety reasons, as it prevents riders from hearing other sounds on the road.

She continued: "Wearing earphones whilst cycling could present a safety risk to yourself and other road users.

"Listening to music compromises a cyclist's ability to listen to road traffic, including the sirens of emergency vehicles.

"They may also be less aware of warning signals such as vehicles using their horn or pedestrians shouting."

It's not the only country where this is banned – in France you can be fined €135 (£117) for breaking the rules.

In Italy and Portugal, you must have at least one earphone out while cycling, while it isn't illegal in the UK.

Spain is introducing lots of strict new laws this year for rowdy tourists.

The local government in the Costa del Sol has warned holidaymakers that walking about naked or just in underwear is forbidden.

Carrying an object, doll or inflatable which looks like a private body part or of any sexual nature, is also banned, with fines up to €750 (£668).

Clubbers could be hit with a £25,000 penalty if they attend illegal parties on Ibiza and Majorca, which have been clamping down on unlicensed events.

Fines can be given for being caught smoking on Spanish beaches, as well as wearing football shirts at some restaurants.

Brits are also required to show that they have at least £85 to spend each day – or could be turned away at the border.

And several Spanish resorts have introduced tourist taxes, with some coming into place this year.
