The simple suitcase mistake you’re making which means it is more likely to get lost | The Sun

IF you're in the market for a new suitcase, you might want to do your research before buying.

Experts have revealed the big mistake people make with their luggage – and it could mean it gets lost.

While a black suitcase may seem chic, it is also the hardest to identify.

Instead, you should opt for a brightly coloured one so you can find it easier – or so staff can spot it amongst the other bags.

Frankfurt Airport boss Stefan Schulte even warned travellers to avoid black suitcases after the airport has struggled with baggage, similar to the problems at Heathrow.

He said it was "hard to distinguish them from each other” with an airport spokesperson adding: “Many people travel with black suitcases on wheels which makes identifying them very time-intensive.”

You should also avoid having soft luggage, and opt for hard suitcases instead.

This is because they get damaged much more easily – one woman found this out the hard way after her husband received his suitcase bag only for it to be completely shredded.

In 2019, a woman was left fuming after the airline lost her suitcase, only for it to turn up in pieces, while another passenger was given his checked luggage after a flight, only for it to arrive with a gaping hole in the middle.

And an airport worker has revealed the suitcases which are most likely to get damaged in transit – and it isn't good news if you pack heavy.

They wrote: "If your bag is over 55lbs, it's gonna have a bad time. How annoyed do you get lifting your own bag into the back of the car?

"Imagine have to do that 200 times – it gets frustrating and tiresome and sometimes we just throw with very little care because they are too heavy to do carefully."

If you're really worried, savvy travellers have revealed how to track your luggage.
