A UK seaside town is preparing for summer without one of its top attractions.
Some locals have expressed disappointment and even embarrassment at having one of their best features not available for tourists this year.
The Southport Pier is the second longest pier in the country, but was unexpectedly shut late last year due to the discovery of structural damage.
The café and arcade, located on the structure are also both closed, according to the Manchester Evening News, with a reopening date yet to be confirmed.
Work to improve the pier was proposed last summer by Sefton Council, who put forward plans for a £3m renovation project.
But major damage was discovered in December after freezing weather caused more problems, and the pier has remained shut ever since.

The structure is number three on the list of things to do in Southport, according to TripAdvisor, with only the Atkinson art gallery and Southport Marine Lake ahead of it.
However, its closure has led to some residents leaving negative comments on the review site.
One wrote: "Not been open for ages, don't make any special trips assuming it will be accessible if outside the area."
Another said they were embarrassed by its closure.

They commented: "As a Southport resident embarrassed is not an easy word to use as we await three bank holidays in May.
"Southport has no pier open although advertised on entering Southport and to make matters worse the beach or what is left of it is closed because of a mud surface and the town centre is not very welcoming re shops shut etc.
"A very sad neglected town for tourists and residents!"
A third added: "The pier and the whole of the walkway from the entrance by the Marine Lake is closed. There’s nothing to say why that we saw and it all looks a bit sad."
However, visitors to Southport this summer can still visit one of the country's best seaside pubs.
The Windmill, built in three former fishermen's cottages was shortlisted for the UK's best boozer last month.
The self-styled 'typical English pub' pub was named Merseyside Pub and Bar of the Year in the National Pub and Bar Awards – securing its place in the running for the top national award.
The pub enjoys glowing reviews online, with many paying tribute to the fantastic food and service.
One said: "Nice warm welcome from the lady behind the bar. Very dog friendly as well.
"Very reasonable price and will definitely return next time we visit Southport."
