The World’s Tallest, Longest and Fastest Single-Rail Roller Coaster Will Open This Year in N.J.

Coasterheads, prepare for your next big adrenaline rush — the tallest, longest and fastest single-rail roller coaster in the world will officially be opening to the public in 2021.

The record-breaking ride, aptly named the "Jersey Devil," is located at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey — which coaster fanatics may know for being home to the tallest (and previously fastest) roller coaster in the world, Kingda Ka.

First announced back in August 2019, the Jersey Devil towers 130 feet in the air, and will propel riders through the sky at speeds up to 58 mph. An 87-degree vertical drop after a 13 story hill kicks it all off, and a scream-inducing 180-degree stall, raven dive and zero-gravity roll will invert passengers throughout the ride.

What makes the coaster different from many others is the fact that it features just one rail — meaning riders will sit low down and single-file, legs straddling the track (eek!).

On Monday, engineers placed the final piece of orange steel on the Jersey Devil, completing the track. Photos of the process can be seen below.

According to a press release, the team must complete a few more phases — like adding the trains, doing inspections and testing — before the ride can open to the public, but they can confirm that it will open during the 2021 season.

Currently, there is no official opening date for the coaster, though they plan to announce one by March.

Six Flags Great Adventure theme park will open for the season on March 27. Their Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure will open a little earlier, on March 20.

Tickets must be purchased in advance, and reservations will be required to visit in order to maintain social distancing. Tickets will be available on the park website.
