Warning as snow and -2 temperatures hit holiday hotspots including Ibiza and Malaga | The Sun

BRIT holiday hotspots in Spain have hit snow as temperatures plunge below zero.

Beaches in Ibiza and the streets of the Costa del Col including Malaga were seen covered in snow after Majorca was also hit by freezing weather.

Spain's national weather office said the Balearic island of Ibiza's unusual weather conditions are the result of the polar freeze currently affecting the country.

The town of Sant Joan de Labritja on the island recorded a temperature of around -2C overnight.

Pictures showed the normally sunny island hit by snow including the popular beach at Cala LLonga.

It comes as temperatures in Mallorca dropped to as low as -2C, with more snow expected tonight and on Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to remain low between -2C and 5C in most parts of the island, El Diario de Majorca reports.

However in Palma, Sóller, Pollença, Sa Pobla and Artà they will be slightly higher between 6C and 7C.

The cloudy sky is set to remain on the island as some storms and small hail have not been ruled out, especially at night.

The weather warning comes just days after the first snowflakes of 2023 were recorded in the Serra de Tramuntana earlier this week.

Meteorologist Alberto Darder shared the snowy pictures on Twitter with the caption "The first of 2023, at 1,400 meters."

It comes as over 40 provinces were on alert this week for heavy rain, snow, ice, strong winds and huge waves as they were preparing to be hit by two storms.

Meanwhile, Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza were battered by strong winds brought by storm Gérard.
