Where can you travel unvaccinated?

Temperatures are rising, and the urge to travel is getting stronger.

If you haven’t been vaccinated however, the options get slimmer.

Many places will require you to be double vaccinated if you want to step off the plane and roam free – while unvaccinated people often have to quarantine first.

When annual leave always feels too short coupled with holiday costs, spending two weeks in an isolation hotel isn’t ideal.

Vaccination rates have varied place to place too. In the United States for example, those over five now need to be double vaccinated to enter restaurants – but some British children won’t have received a second dose yet.

We don’t know how much longer the world will operate like this, but we do know we’re stuck with covid for the long haul – and it’s likely that travel won’t return to ‘normal’ across the globe for the foreseeable.

Here’s what you need to know.

Where can I travel unvaccinated?

The rules can change at any time, so always check government websites for the latest advice.

Countries you can currently travel to without a vaccination are:

  • Albania
  • Aruba
  • Bahamas

  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Burundi
  • Cape Verde
  • Comoros
  • Costa Rica
  • Cuba
  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • Dominican Republic
  • Egypt
  • El Salvador
  • Eswatini
  • Gambia

  • Iceland
  • Ireland
  • Israel
  • Jordan
  • Kazakhstan
  • Kenya
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Lebanon

Most countries will require a test to gain entry – often a PCR or in some cases an Antigen – which need to be negative.

Often due to the reliance on tourism for the wider economy, these countries have opened their doors to the unvaccinated.

What do I need to do to return to England?

If you manage to escape for a holiday, you need to make sure you don’t get caught out on the flight back.

Rules to get back into the country are stricter for the unvaccinated.

Before you return, you need to:

  • Take a COVID-19 test two days before the flight back
  • Pay for a PCR test after landing in England
  • Fill out a passenger locator form in the three days before travelling back

Children under 17 in most cases won’t need to do any tests.
