Woman ends Cornwall holiday early after it was 'too busy' – and says Newquay should be on travel BAN list

A WOMAN who went on holiday to Cornwall said she cut her holiday short – because it was too BUSY.

Ali Arnison, from Leeds, said her and her family returned home early last week after restaurants were also closed and supermarkets were empty.

She wrote on Facebook: "Had to come home early from Newquay. The place needs putting on the banned list of places to travel."

The family, who travelled more than 300 miles, also said that many of the restaurants had no staff due to Covid.

She continued: "There are so many cases of Covid down there, no staff in restaurants as they’ve all got Covid, but they’re still packing people in.

"Ridiculously busy supermarkets with no staff and empty shelves.

"Even remote beaches were heaving, just no escape at all from the crowds. I feel so sorry for the locals."

Despite arriving on Friday, 30 July for a week long holiday, they left the following Wednesday.

TOO BUSY

Many people sympathised with the family, with one person writing: "As an ex Northerner who lives down here, completely sympathetic with you. Boardmasters coming up next week and roads are gridlocked."

According to the BBC, Visit Cornwall has estimated that there are up to 210,000 Brits holidaying in the area – up from the usual 180,000.

Visit Cornwall boss Malcom Bell said: "Visitors are not getting a good experience, locals are frustrated and systems can't cope".

Covid cases in Newquay are 792.7 per 100,000 people – much higher than England's average rate of 270.

Tourists could face further travel chaos with protesters threatening to block major routes into Cornwall over fury at second home owners.

A local campaign group has bragged there is "little to stop" it causing misery for millions of Brits planning a summer getaway to the South West.
