World cruise sells out in one day – despite cheapest fare being £58k

World cruise for 2023 with starting prices for cabins at £58,000 sells out in ONE DAY

  • Silversea’s 2023 World Cruise will start in Sydney and last for 139 days
  • It will sail the Amazon River and call at Myanmar, South Africa and Cape Verde
  • The sailing will take place on the recently refurbished 388-guest Silver Shadow

A world cruise has sold out in just one day – despite the cheapest fare being £58,000 ($74,000).

The 2023 sailing on Silversea’s Silver Shadow will last 139 days and call at 66 destinations in 34 countries across five continents.

But even with prices of up to £218,000 ($278,000) per guest, it fully sold out within hours of it being put on general sale – shattering Silversea’s previous booking records.

The voyage, called South Side Story – All the World’s a Stage, will ‘take guests deep into the Southern Hemisphere, sailing from the South Seas to the Amazon Rainforest and beyond’.

It will depart Sydney on January 10, 2023, and arrive in Fort Lauderdale on May 28.

Silversea says: ‘The itinerary will present an extraordinary mix of destinations, from the remote wonders of Papua New Guinea, Mauritius, Réunion Island, and Cape Verde to iconic regions and cities, often unlocked on overnight calls (20 in total), including 10 days spent exploring Tasmania and New Zealand, three days in Myanmar, and a full week in South Africa.

‘And, for the first time on a Silversea World Cruise, Silver Shadow will sail the Amazon River to unlock the natural and cultural wonders of this legendary region.’

It adds: ‘As it charts a course through captivating landscapes, each segment will unlock the history, culture and spirit of the people and places visited.

‘Exclusive World Cruise events will open the doors to the sights, tastes and rhythms of local life, and shine a light on regional music, art, theatre, and dance traditions with authentic performances.’

The recently refurbished 388-guest Silver Shadow features all-ocean-view suites, butler service and ‘sumptuous cuisine highlighted by regional specialities’.

Also included in the price of a ticket are business class flights on Qantas from selected gateways in the UK and US to Sydney for the start of the cruise.

Roberto Martinoli, Silversea’s president and CEO, says: ‘We are delighted to have seen unprecedented demand for our World Cruise 2023, South Side Story, which sold out within hours of its general opening.

‘The most successful World Cruise launch in the history of our cruise line, this triumph pays testament to the strong demand we are seeing in the market, particularly from affluent, sophisticated travellers.

‘I strongly advise our travel partners to be quick in adding their interested clients to the voyage’s wait-list, as Silver Shadow is sure to embark upon this remarkable itinerary at capacity.’

In February, MailOnline Travel reported that another world voyage, costing upwards of £38,000 ($52,000) per person, had also sold out in just one day.

The 2023 odyssey on Oceania Cruises ship Insignia will take 180 days to circumnavigate the globe from San Francisco, visiting 96 destinations in 33 countries across four continents, including Antarctica.

But even with prices of up to £74,000 ($102,000) a person for a penthouse suite, the 684 berths were snapped up within hours of going on sale. A fifth of guests even extended the mammoth voyage to 218 days.
