The scene: The charming town of Jackson, Wyoming’s tourism gem, is the gateway to both the nation’s first and most famous national park, Yellowstone (plus adjacent Grand Teton National Park for good measure) and one of its top ski areas, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Between these two major attractions and the Old West charms of the town itself, Jackson is one of the few outdoorsy destinations that is booming in all four seasons, and whether you are here to see grizzlies, watch Old Faithful erupt or shred deep powder, there’s a hot new restaurant that you will almost certainly walk past. You might want to go in.
Roadhouse Pub & Eatery opened this past fall, just in time for ski season, and sits directly on Jackson’s famous town square, a village green marked at its corners by towering welcome arches made of interlocked elk antlers, shed (painlessly) each season in the town’s National Elk Refuge, another tourism site. The square is the heart of Jackson, and Roadhouse has a prime upstairs location with outdoor terrace, packed in warm weather, overlooking it. At ground level there is a retail store selling beer to go, souvenirs and growler refills, while an adjacent door leads to stairs opening into the actual eatery.
It is one very large room with an Old West-meets-industrial feel, heavy wood tables and floors along with high ceilings and exposed ductwork. There is a bar with seating in front, another in the back, and in between are lots of tables of varied sizes. All along the back wall Is a working craft brewery, its gleaming steel tanks completely encased in glass and on display. Blackboard-style signs over the stairs show the daily adult beverage offerings, and both bars feature 30 taps for beer made onsite (small batch special editions), the main lineup produced at parent Roadhouse Brewery just outside of town, and guest draughts from other Wyoming and Idaho producers. There is also an extensive wine list and a full bar, including craft cocktail menu.
