Would the promise of a bacon bap be enough to lure you back to the office?
What about a free coffee, too?
The Rail Delivery Group is hoping a nice breakfast will work as an incentive to return to commuter life.
The industry body has announced plans to offer free Greggs breakfast food and hot drinks to entice people back on to their trains – along with free audiobooks, access to a mindfulness app, and drinks from London-based cafe chain Pure.
All you’ll need to do is sign up to nationalrail.co.uk/commuter, select the stations you commute to and from on National Rail (so no, getting the Tube doesn’t count, unfortunately), and choose your reward.
Be warned, however, that only 1,000 free Greggs breakfast rolls will be available through this scheme, so you’ll need to move fast.
Other offers will be introduced in the coming weeks, however.
RDG chief executive Jacqueline Starr said: ‘Taking the train is more than just a journey, it benefits the environment, economy and local businesses.
‘To encourage and support commuters as they return, the rail industry has launched a new commuter rewards website offering free hot drinks, mindfulness, course upgrades, music streaming, audiobooks and more to help enhance customers’ on-train and at-destination experiences.’
Let’s be real: any freebie is pretty tempting. Make it a Greggs, and it’s even more so.
But will that be enough to convince people to abandon the ease of working from home, and dive right back into the stress of train journeys with noisy fellow commuters?
We’ll have to wait and see.
