Baby died while in sleeping pod on parents' bed just four months after being born, inquest hears | The Sun

A BABY born on Christmas Day died just four months later while sleeping in a pod, an inquest heard.

Leonidas Ramsden passed away at his family home in Buckfastleigh, Devon.

The inquest in Plymouth heard that he had been born on Christmas Day 2021 and died in April 2022.

The hearing was told that he was "fed and placed in a sleeping pod upstairs on his parents' bed".

They found him unresponsive the next morning.

There are no suspicious circumstances and a post-mortem could not determine the cause of death.

A full inquest will be held at a later date.

Also called baby nests, sleeping pods are cushions with padded sides designed to cocoon babies as they nap.

It is not known which style of pod Leonidas was using. Safe sleeping charity The Lullaby Trust has warned that some baby sleeping products do not comply with their guidelines which says the safest place for a baby to sleep is in their own clear, separate sleep space, such as a cot or Moses basket that has a firm, flat surface.

A fundraising page set up in Leonidas' memory has already raised more than £1,400.
