Sarah Keith-Lucas highlighted colder air pushing across most of Europe from the north. The BBC meteorologist stated this cold air will bring scattered but heavy showers into Europe and some mountain snow for Italy and the Balkans.

Ms Keith-Lucas said: “As we head through the first few days of April colder air is moving its way in from the north across much of Europe.

“Where it does meet that mild air we have got some scatted heavy showers.

“There will be outbreaks of rain and mountain snow too across Italy and the Balkans as well.

“It is still relatively warm and dry in Turkey and Greece.

“Temperatures in Athens are around 22 degrees on Saturday.”

The BBC meteorologist added: “Also across Portugal and Spain, there are some scattered showers.

“It will be cooler than it has been recently for France, the UK and Denmark as well.

“Many places looking dry with high pressure not far away.”

BBC Weather: UK temperatures set to drop over bank holiday

On Friday morning, the BBC’s Matt Taylor forecast a brutal “arctic blast” of cold air to hit Britain during the Easter bank holiday weekend as temperatures are set to plummet.

Mr Taylor told BBC Breakfast that the start of the Easter bank holiday will see sunshine and dry weather with a temperature boost across the UK but wintery showers are expected by late Sunday.

The BBC meteorologist said: “This weekend there will be a lot of dry and sunny weather, to begin with but some of you will see a bit of snow.

“It is chilly out there at the moment but as winds go west on Saturday Scotland and Northern Ireland are to receive a temperature boost.

“That temperature boost will push into England and Wales for Sunday ahead of what will be an arctic blast of cold air for all of us into Easter Monday.”

The BBC Meteorologist continued: “After a spell of rain, sleet and snow on Sunday night we open the door to very strong winds.

“Just about any of you could see a passing snow shower through the day on Monday.”

He added: “Your Easter Monday will feel more like it is freezing outside.”
