Biden inauguration – QAnon extremists plotting to pose as National Guard soldiers to cause chaos after riots, warns FBI

QANON fanatics are said to be plotting to pose as National Guard troops in a bid to cause chaos on Inauguration Day, a FBI intelligence briefing warns.

The report reveals that "lone wolves" and extremists – some of whom were involved in the deadly January 6 insurrection at the Capitol – have indicated that they plan to head to DC on January 20.

Videos and pictures taken of the security measures by unknown individuals have been shared online and maps of the city have been studied by extremists, the Washington Post reports.

No specific plots similar to the attack on the Capitol have been identified with several militia and extremist groups condemning violence targeted at the transition of power.

Insider threats have been a persistent law enforcement priority after the years following the September 11 attacks.

In most cases, the threats are from homegrown insurgents radicalized by Islamic State or similar organizations.

The threats against Biden's inauguration have been fueled by loyal supporters of Donald Trump, far right militants and white supremacists.

Many believe Trump's claim that the election was stolen from him – an accusation that has been dismissed by many courts in key battleground states.

The FBI are currently vetting National Guard troops amid fears of a "inside attack" at inauguration or some other threat from service members.

Approximately 25,000 members of the National Guard will need to undergo an additional background check prior to Inauguration Day on January 20.

The FBI decided to take action as a preventative measure to avoid an act of "domestic extremism"

Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy said officials are aware of a potential threat, however, no evidence has been found.

He said: "We’re continually going through the process, and taking second, third looks at every one of the individuals assigned to this operation.

"The question is, is that all of them? Are there others?

He added: "We need to be conscious of it and we need to put all of the mechanisms in place to thoroughly vet these men and women who would support any operations like this."

National Guard Bureau Chief, General Daniel R Hokanson, believes the safety procedure will will be successful.

He said: "If there’s any indication that any of our soldiers or airmen are expressing things that are extremist views, it’s either handed over to law enforcement or dealt with the chain of command immediately."

Defense One explained the process will act as "another layer" of security.

Major General William Walker said: "For this deployment everybody is screened additionally, but it’s more of a reassurance, because we do everything we can do know our Guardsmen, our soldiers and airmen."

Former FBI boss James Comey warned Biden's inauguration is under threat from "armed disturbed" people following the riot at the Capitol.

He said the threat has to be taken "very very seriously" after five people died in the mob attack on January 6.

Capitol rioter Jake Angeli, known as the "QAnon Shaman", will be detained until his trial, CBS News reports.

Arizona prosecutors said his words and actions during the siege show that the intent of the rioters was to "capture and assassinate" lawmakers.

Angeli, whose real name is Jacob Chansley, is a well-known supporter of the QAnon conspiracy in Arizona.

He was indicted by a federal grand jury on six counts including violent entry and disorderly conduct in a Capitol.

Images of a shirtless Chansley storming the Capitol wearing bull horns, a coyote tail headdress, and face paint as he carried a bullhorn spear went viral on social media.

He's currently being detained in a detention facility in Arizona after turning himself in to the FBI.

The Phoenix native said he was on an "extremely restrictive diet" whilst he was in custody.

Angeli wasn't eating for religious reasons, but the suspect's mother later said it was because "the detention facility won’t feed him all organic food".
