Boots recalls its multivitamins as mix up means they could pose a health risk

HIGH Street retailer Boots has been forced to recall its multivitamins after a packaging mix up.

Boots Multivitamin supplements have been taken off shelves because they have been incorrectly packed with tablets containing iron – posing a health risk to some customers.

Batches of the product that have been recalled include 1805 and 1806 and will have a best before date of November 2022.

The packs come with 180 tablets and the Foods Standard Agency (FSA) has advised that if you have bought the product and are currently taking iron supplements – then you should stop taking the multivitamin.

The FSA said you should return the product to a Boots store for a full refund.

The reason the product has been taken off the shelves is due to the fact that it does not contain vitamin K, but instead contains iron.

The FSA states: "Excess supplemental iron can result in gastrointestinal effects such as pain, discomfort, constipation or nausea and vomiting.

"Iron has not been mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk to individuals who may also be consuming iron supplements in addition to these multivitamins."

Boots said the supplements had been on sale between January 12 and 19.

In a customer notice it said: "We have identified a label ling issue with this product and therefore a potential safety issue.

"The safety and well-being of our customers is very important to us so if
you have recently bought this product and it contains one of the above
batch numbers we're asking that you stop taking the tablets and return
the product to your nearest Boots store for a full refund."

The recall number for the multivitamins is 01006559.

The Sun has contacted Boots for comment.
