Here is a rather unusual way to propose marriage to your girlfriend while you are handcuffed on a Brazilian street.

With the assistance of two Rio de Janeiro police officers, Marcos Veloso shocked Shirley Mclaynee with the news that the couple had bought a car that had been reported stolen as part of a plot to get her to say yes.

Video footage of the recent engagement was recorded by their friend and showed one of the cops questioning Veloso over the car’s origin.

‘Where did you buy this car? Where are the documents,’ the police officer asked a handcuffed Veloso.

The viral video showed one of the police officers pulling a red box with the engagement ring and handing it over to Veloso.

Mclaynee walked back into a cafeteria they were eating at before the impromptu marriage proposal to retrieve her belongings and then returned to her boyfriend’s side, totally unaware of what was about to transpire.

A cop grabbed her by the arm and pulled her towards Veloso, who got on one knee and said, ‘Here Shirley. Will you marry me.’

Veloso told Brazilian news outlet G1 that he was initially nervous about asking Mclaynee to be his wife while they were dining at the cafeteria and approached the police officers for help. They obliged.

‘I wanted to do something different from everything else,’ Veloso recalled. ‘So, I saw the police. I had already bought the ring and said, ‘That will be it.’ I asked them and they agreed to do it.’

Mclaynee approved of her boyfriend’s uncommon form of proposing marriage.

‘He is everything to me. He has a huge heart,’ she said. ‘Because he is a good person, because of the way he treats me, I am completely in love with him.’
