A group of Good Samaritans helped the fire crew rescue a woman trapped in her car just moments before the vehicle was swallowed up by a massive sinkhole in Texas.

Extraordinary video shows the white Sedan submerged and sinking in the water on Tuesday evening at 6.40pm in El Paso, after the city was hit by major flooding.

Firefighters quickly attached a rope to the trunk of the car and bystanders rushed to help them hold the back end of the vehicle above the water level.

At the same time, others were seen pulling the woman through the rear windshield and carrying her to safety.

After the woman was freed from the white Sedan, the car was seen tipping further into the  sinkhole in El Paso on Tuesday night

Once the woman is free of the quickly sinking car, the Good Samaritans let go of the rope and moments later, the white Sedan is seen tipping further into the sinkhole.

Within just a few minutes, the car is almost entirely submerged in the sinkhole, with only the rear lights visible above the water.

‘Thirty seconds more and she would’ve been dead,’ a witness told CBS News.

Enrique Duenas-Aguilar, the public information officer with the El Paso Fire Department who filmed the rescue, told Storyful that the woman was transported to medical car with minor injuries that she had reportedly sustained while breaking the back window of her car.

Three firefighters were also treated for minor injuries after the rescue mission.

A day later, once the flooding had subsided, El Paso Water crews used a digger to pull the badly damaged car from the sinkhole, which had been caused by a water main break.

EPWater said in a statement: ‘EPWater crews have removed the car from the hole and will now work to remove debris and make repairs to the water line.’

The road where the sinkhole occurred remains closed at this time.
