Cleaner finds dead body and missing person chained up inside house of horrors

A missing person and a dead body were discovered by a cleaner inside a gruesome home dubbed a 'House of Horror'.

The woman who had gone into the property made the grim find when she sat down on a pile of blankets but realised she had instead rested on a dead body.

Police believe that Heidi Carter met the two people on a dating app when alleged accomplice Carey Hammond came home and stumbled upon them having sex.

It's said the pair then tied up the victims after Hammond brutally beat them with a baseball bat.

Carter, 36, has been arrested with Hammond being shot dead by cops at the scene, in Indiana, US.

On Tuesday night a woman, who had gone to the home to help clean ahead of an inspection, flagged down an officer, saying that she had stopped by Carter’s home and found "a dead body" inside.

She ran out of the house screaming and state police officers responded around 11pm, assuming that they were dealing with a possible kidnapping and murder.

When they arrived, Carter was outside with a gun and said that there were still "several people" inside the home, leading to officers ordering those inside to come out.

One unidentified man complied with police commands and was later released.

A second man then came out, Hammond, and is said to have "rushed out of the front door in an aggressive manner" with an object in his hands that he pointed at police who fatally shot him.

Officers then entered the home and found a woman "who had been tied up, shackled, and had visible injuries", alongside a male individual who was deceased.

The cause of death appeared "suspicious" and he had been restrained, duct-taped, beaten, and strangled.

According to the affidavit, investigators determined that Carter had met both victims on a dating app and invited them over, but Hammond who was shot at the scene had "arrived home during their sexual activity."

He allegedly beat up both victims with a baseball bat before both he and Carter chained them up.

The female victim who had been sexually assaulted multiple times by Hammond has been hospitalised.

Carter faces charges of murder, rape and abusing a corpse, criminal confinement with a firearm, intimidation with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon and assisting a criminal.

Carter claimed she had only gone along with Hammond in restraining the victims out of fear he might harm her.
