Convicted murderer and millionaire Robert Durst has been placed on a ventilator after he tested positive for Covid-19 just two days into a life sentence, his attorney has said.
Durst, 78, was given a life sentence without the possibility of parole on Thursday by a judge for killing his best friend more than two decades ago.
The real estate tycoon was convicted last month for the murder of Susan Berman in 2000.
Dick DeGuerin, Durt's lead defence attorney, said the millionaire was in "very bad condition" during the time of his sentencing, The Sun reported.
The attorney confirmed that Durst had been hospitalised and placed on a ventilator, Los Angeles Times reported.
DeGuerin told The Daily Beast: "He looked very very ill at sentencing Thursday. He had difficulty speaking, breathing.
“I’m very concerned. We haven’t heard from his doctors.
“We don’t know what’s going to happen. The doctor we had examine him twice said the trial would be very dangerous to his health, and now he’s got Covid."
Durst had reportedly been held in the USC Medical Centre throughout the trial and watched by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, The Times reported.

It is not currently clear when or where the 78-year-old became infected with the deadly virus.
The real estate tycoon was convicted of first-degree murder on September 17 for shooting 55-year-old Susan Berman at point-blank range in the back of her head, execution-style.
He reportedly murdered Berman inside her Beverly Hills home as she was going to go to authorities and tell how she helped to cover the killing of his wife Kathy Durst.

Durst was also found guilty of the special circumstances of lying in wait and killing a witness.
This charge comes with a mandatory life sentence with no possibility of parole.
He became a prime suspect following the 2015 HBO documentary, The Jinx.
In the popular mini-series, Durst was recorded talking to himself inside a bathroom stall: "What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course."
Realising his own alleged slip, Durst can be heard saying: "There it is. You're caught."
Durst is worth $65million (£47million), according to Celebrity Net Worth.
