Diabetic mother had FOUR seizures after being 'spiked by injection'

Diabetic mother-of-one, 30, tells how she is ‘scared to go out’ after she suffered FOUR seizures when she was ‘spiked by injection’ on night out

  • Danielle Hayton, 30, suffered several seizures after a night out in Lancashire
  • Her cousin found her drowsy and unresponsive with extremely high heart rate
  • Paramedics rushed to her to hospital and confirmed the mother had been spiked

A mother suffered four seizures after claiming to be spiked by an injection on a night out in Lancashire last week.

Danielle Hayton has been left afraid to go and see friends for drinks after her heart rate skyrocketed and she began convulsing on February 26.

Her family were frightened for her life as paramedics blue lighted the 30-year-old to hospital.

‘All I could think was, what if something worse had happened and my little boy was left without his mummy?’ Danielle said.

The Clitheroe resident was on a night out with her cousin Rebekah, 26, when she started falling asleep at the bar, something totally out of character.

Being Type 1 diabetic, it was assumed health care assistant Danielle was drowsy because her blood sugars were low.

It wasn’t until the cousins got home that Danielle’s condition rapidly deteriorated.

The health care assistant has been left with an injured tongue and sore body from the seizures

Danielle said she didn’t feel being injected on her arm (pictured) on her night out, but it has left a small pinprick and bruising on her right arm

Danielle was left scared after the incident, thinking what would happen to her son Joah if he was ‘left without his mummy’

Rebekah was unable to wake Danielle up from her drowsiness and quickly realised something more sinister had happened.

She then watched on in fear her cousin began to have seizures, with each one becoming more intense than the last.

‘It could have been so much worse,’ said Danielle. ‘It’s been scary – especially because I’m type 1 diabetic.

‘It’s definitely been an eye opener.

‘But it makes me so worried and scared to go out and drink again.’

The convulsing from seizures has even had a longer-term effect on Danielle’s body – including a gnawed tongue and aching limbs.

The devoted mum to 22-month-old Joah doesn’t go out often, so was petrified by the impact the spiking had on her body.

She added: ‘I’ve ended up with a bitten and cut tongue from the seizures, as well as sore legs and body.

‘It’s been a rough week but I’m just so grateful for my cousin, sister and the paramedics acting so quickly and helping me.’

Paramedics confirmed in the ambulance she had been spiked.

Danielle didn’t feel a needle prick her at any point on the night out so was shocked to find an injection mark on her right arm.

The needle prick was surrounded by a ring of bruising.

her cousin Rebekah said: ‘I’m just so glad I was there and wasn’t injected myself.

‘I dread to think how it would have been if I hadn’t been here or able to help.’

Lancashire Police has been approached for comment.
