Elon Musk plans to build new city around his SpaceX facility called ‘Starbase’

Elon Musk is hoping to take his SpaceX facilities one step further, creating a new city close to the Texas base of his rockets.

The businessman has proven that nothing is off-limits for him as he plans to send civilians into space later this year but has now taken to social media to unveil his latest plans.

Elon, 49, took to his social media channels earlier this week to share his development with his online followers, saying that the city he plans on creating would be around his SpaceX launch facilities in Boca Chica, south Texas.

Currently, Boca Chica is an incorporated town located close to Brownsville, where SpaceX has been testing its rockets since 2014.

Taking to Twitter, Elon wrote: "Creating the city of Starbase, Texas."

He later went on to add: "From thence to Mars, and hence the Stars."

However, Elon's plans might not be able to go ahead, shortly after his string of tweets, Cameron County Judge, Eddie Trevino, the county's top official released a statement revealing that he would have to go through a lengthy process.

It read: "In the last few days, Cameron County was officially approached by SpaceX regarding Elon Musk's interest to incorporate Boca Chica Village into the City of Starbase, Texas.

"Earlier today, Cameron County Commissioners Court was informed of Space X's endeavour."

Trevino went on to say: "If SpaceX and Elon Musk would like to pursue down this path, they must abide by all state incorporation statutes.

"Cameron County will process any appropriate petitions in conformity with applicable law."

Should Elon wish to continue with his plans to create a city, local residents are required to sign a petition that would be sent to a country judge before an election is called to make the final decision.

If the election was to be successful, the City of Starbase would have the power to create its own laws and other decisions, away from the local authority.

SpaceX recently launched their latest Starship rocket, SN10, which successfully carried out a test flight above Boca Chica village, before abruptly bursting into flames minutes after landing.

Musk hopes to send the first "all-civilian" flight into the Earth's orbit later this year on one of his spaceships, with businessman Jared Isaacman chartering the flights.
