Female teacher ‘ordered schoolgirl to let abuse continue or she’d kill herself’

A female school teacher sexually abused a 15-year-old girl almost every day for a year, it is alleged.

Elizabeth Vigil, 32, has been charged with eight counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor, 12 counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor, and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Her victim who is now aged 19 claims Vigil emotionally blackmailed her into helplessly taking the repeated assaults on school property and a nearby park, the Albuquerque Journal reports.

The 32-year-old who was arrested in Albuquerque on Thursday has become the third teacher at Aztec High School in New Mexico, US, to be at the centre of a sickening sexual abuse scandal.

Vigil's victim made the scarring admission about the abuse she suffered from the teacher to a school therapist who contacted police on April 5.

Police claim that Vigil told the child in April 2017, that she was attracted to her and asked if she would want to "do sexual things".

From that initial approach, the sex predator assaulted the student almost daily every time she could get her on her own.

Vigil allegedly told the student that she "was in love with her and would kill herself if she left", making the teenager feel forced to accept the intimate acts during summer break, police said.

With the return of school following the holidays, Vigil suggested the pair should get married and discussed their "future" together all the while abusing her.

The teenager involved claimed to investigators that there were multiple acts of sexual assault and sexual abuse between April and December 2017.

She later told cops it began with Instagram messages which her parents described them as "flirtatious" but not "sexual in nature".

However, she was still removed from the teacher’s class, but it is claimed the messages continued and the teenager told investigators she felt Vigil was lying to her, manipulating her, and emotionally blackmailing her to stay together, the affidavit states.

The student said she suffered five "breakdowns" during this time, according to court documents.

In a statement, Aztec Superintendent Kevin Summers said their "first priority is the safety of our students and community.

"To this end, (Aztec Municipal Schools) has committed to full cooperation with State and Local authorities and has been engaged in conversations with the New Mexico Public Education Department's Professional Licensure Bureau."
