Deaths in Denver’s South Platte River, Cherry Hills Village under investigation

Local authorities are seeking help on two unrelated incidents in the metro area.

Denver police are investigating the death of a woman found in the South Platte River as a homicide.

The police said in a tweet that the woman was found Wednesday near the 3500 block of Ringsby Court. No other details were available early Friday.

Fatal hit-and-run

Police are also asking for help to locate a man who was involved in a fatal crash Monday evening.

According to Cherry Hills Village police, a crash killing Stacy L. Pepper, 37, occurred about 6:34 p.m. in the 4000 block of South University Boulevard.

Police say she was struck by a truck that was reported stolen and is associated with a burglary in Arapahoe County.

Pepper was visiting family in Colorado, where she is originally from but was living in California.

According to her obituary, Pepper graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 2002 and was the speech and debate team captain before going to Stanford.

“Stacy was incomparably vibrant, endlessly curious, and had a passion for exploring the world broadly and deeply,” her obituary reads. “She was remarkable at making and maintaining lifelong friendships. It brought her great joy to share her experiences with friends and family and document her world travels through perfectly crafted photo memory books.”

The obituary says the driver crossed three lanes of oncoming traffic and crashed into her head-on.

Police are seeking a man who fled from the crash scene on foot. He was last spotted in a dark-colored shirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes. Police say he may have an injured left arm.
