A Florida woman was rescued from a storm drain for the third time in two years, once being pulled out naked after she went missing for two months.
Lyndsey Jane Kennedy was reported to be in distress when a witness found her swimming in a canal near Delray Beach last week. She appeared not to need help as she ignored police upon their arrival and fled into the storm drain.
Firefighters were able to trap Kennedy from both sides of the drainpipe and pull her out with the help of a harness and ladder. She was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.
Kennedy has a history of disappearing into storm drains and once told her mother that she was taking a ‘journey’ inspired by the Biblical prophet Elijah before escaping underground.

It is unclear how long Kennedy was traveling around the Florida storm drain for this time. Her mom previously reported she suffered from psychosis and PTSD from an abusive relationship, and also struggles with drug abuse.
Kennedy first disappeared on March 3, 2021 for 20 days when she went for a swim in a Florida canal near her boyfriend’s house. At the time, her family reported her as a missing person.
Police found her naked under a sidewalk in Delray Beach after a pedestrian heard cries for help. She was too weak to stand and had to be pulled out from the drain with a harness while firefighters covered her in a white bed sheet.
Kennedy, who was 43, explained that she’d spotted a tunnel in the canal and went to check it out before quickly realizing she was lost.
She says she was walking around the sewer system for about three weeks before she saw some light in the storm drain and settled there because she could see people walking above her.
The police report – which described Kennedy as ‘very lucid’ when she was found – said she was not taken into protective custody because she did not meet the criteria under Florida’s Baker Act which allows for involuntary institutionalization.
It was later confirmed that Kennedy is a methadone patient and had her last dose on March 2, the day before she went missing. The drug is a prescription opioid used to treat addiction to heroin and other narcotic painkillers.
It is not clear if Kennedy went swimming in the same canal she was most recently found in.

Weeks later in May 2021, Kennedy was found in a drainpipe in Grand Prairie, Texas.
She had been reported missing after checking out of a Dallas rehabilitation facility about a week earlier.
Kennedy’s family told CBS12 News that police spotted her near a creek, but she jumped into a storm drain when they tried to approach her.
Her relatives started searching for her after tracking her last known location on her phone.
They said they started leaving bags of food and Gatorade at the entrance to the drain and nearby manholes.
At the time, she taken to a nearby hospital where she was placed on a psychiatric hold.

Aside from her history of adventuring into storm drains, Kennedy has an extensive criminal past.
In July 2021, she was arrested for a hit-and-run after she fled a gas station with stolen beer, according to The New York Post.
She crashed into a car a short distance after leaving the gas station premises where she nearly hit the store clerk.
Kennedy also had her license suspended 17 times between 2007 and 2020.
