Holy mackerel! Bizarre moment ‘flying’ fish shatters truck driver’s windshield

  • Trucker Barry Poff was driving on Interstate 73 near Greensboro, North Carolina
  • As he crossed Randleman Lake a bird flew in front of him and dropped a fish
  • Dashcam footage shows the fish crack the glass but Barry keeps his truck steady

This is the moment an unlucky fish smashed into a truck’s windshield after being dropped into fast-moving traffic by a bird.

The bass had seen its day go from bad to worse after being plucked from a lake only to meet its demise in a 63mph collision.

Footage of the incident was caught on dashcam on Interstate 73 in North Carolina.

Trucker Barry Poff was travelling down the two-lane highway near Greensboro when he came to a bridge over Randleman Lake.

In the video shot from his truck, a bird suddenly appears from the right hand side carrying a fish in its mouth.

As Barry’s vehicle pulls closer, the bird is flying directly into his path and needs to drastically pull up to avoid being struck.

In a split-second decision the bird drops its weighty cargo to help it soar upwards, sending the fish flying directly into Barry’s windshield.

The animal shattered his windshield, but the part-time drag racer was able to keep a steady hand on the wheel and only pulled over after getting off the bridge.

He added that the encounter was unlike anything he had seen in his three million miles of driving across all 50 states.

‘I pulled over and called my dispatcher,’ Barr said. ‘I told him, “You ain’t gonna believe what just happened. A fish just shattered my windshield.”‘

Barry was unharmed but his truck did suffer some damage in the accident.

He added that he went looking for the fish, believed to be a large-mouth bass, after he pulled over but couldn’t find it.
