Democrats and their supporters have been both celebrating and poking fun at the FBI’s decision to raid former US president Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago residence in Florida on Monday.
The FBI did not provide any comments on what the search might be for, nor did Trump give any indication of why federal agents were at his home.
But as far as Democrats were concerned, no further information was needed as to why the principal federal law enforcement agency of the country was in attendance.
Michael Cohen, who served as an attorney for Trump from 2006 to 2018 and who went to prison after admitting he covered up Trump’s ‘dirty deeds’ led the chorus of approval, tweeting a photo of himself sitting in his car, grinning from ear to ear.

Cohen, who was jailed for three years after pleading guilty to lying to the Senate Intelligence Committee and House Intelligence Committee in 2017 over a proposed Trump Tower Moscow deal, described the raid as a ‘Karma Boomerang’.
‘The look on your face when you learn that the FBI just raided Mar-a-Lago and TFG is s******g a brick!!! #KarmaBoomerang’, he wrote together with a picture of him beaming.
‘A belated Happy Mar-a-Lago Search and Seizure Day to all who celebrate!’ wrote George Conway, the husband of Kellyanne Conway, who served as Senior Counselor to Trump from 2017 to 2020.
Multiple US media outlets cited sources close to the investigation as saying that agents were conducting a court-authorized search related to the potential mishandling of classified documents that had been sent to Mar-a-Lago.
Filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner appeared to be delighted with the news. ‘FBI raids Mar-a-Lago. Game on!!!’ he tweeted.

‘The FBI raiding Mar-a-Lago on August 8th, the anniversary of Richard Nixon announcing he’s resigning, has a certain poetry to it.’ tweeted historian Garrett M. Graff.
Other users also made some interesting points regarding who may have sanctioned the raid
Democratic strategist Adam Parkhomenko imagined Trump would be none too pleased about the raid and made a joke relating to the former president’s love of fast food.
‘The walls of mar-a-lago are getting a new coat of Heinz ketchup right now,’ he wrote.
‘Donald Trump fired James Comey so that Christopher Wray could execute a search warrant on Mar-a-Lago. America,’ he later added.
‘Mar-a-Lago is now officially recognized for what it is: a crime scene,’ suggested lawyer Tristan Snell.
Comic writer Bess Kalb made reference to government work finally being done at Trump’s Florida residence.
‘Make no mistake: This raid is historic in that for the first time there are people at Mar-a-Lago actually doing work for the federal government,’ Kalb stated.
John Scott-Railton, a Senior Researcher at the Centre for Investigative Journalism in Toronto shared his sentiments by mocking some of Trump’s own words.
‘The raid of Mar-a-Lago was a beautiful raid. Maybe the greatest. A very big-league raid. It’s True!’
Representative Ted Lieu, a California Democrat, attempted to provide analysis on why the raid was taking place.
‘Trump shows a profound ignorance of the law. Democrats did not break into his home. This is not prosecutorial misconduct because prosecutors don’t approve warrants. This search occurred because a federal judge found probable cause that evidence of a crime would be at Mar-a-Lago.
