A MAN has been detained as a car park is cordoned off by police over a "suspicious vehicle" at Gatwick Airport.

Passengers are taking to social media with concerns over how to make their flights after the North Terminal car park was closed.


Sussex Police are currently dealing with the incident at the international airport near Crawley, West Sussex.

In an update to Twitter, cops said that a cordon has been put in place a the drop-off parking area at the North Terminal.

They wrote: "A man has been detained.

"As a precaution, a cordon is in place at the drop-off parking area at the North Terminal.

"We will provide more information as soon as we are able."

Some travellers claimed on social media they were told to remain in the terminal as the investigation continued.

On Twitter, one person said: "North Terminal is currently cordoned off by police following a “security incident”.

"It’s not possible to walk between terminals. The only connection is via the shuttle, which is currently suspended. I am stuck inside the North terminal myself."

Those who were hoping to make flights now have been seen venting on social media as they appeal for information.

Writing to Gatwick Airport, on person posted: "Incident? No shuttles from south to north terminal ? Lots of concerned people queued up here, no officials in sight. Please inform us."

One man tagged in EasyJet and Gatwick Airport to a Twitter post and said: "How do I make it to north terminal to get my flight? Are flights being delayed if you’ve stopped passengers getting there?"

Another woman wrote: "Chaos – any chance you could at least get staff on the ground with information? Currently pretty hopeless."
