Ghislaine Maxwell’s Christmas prison dinner will be ‘meatloaf and mash’

British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell will be served a festive lunch with meatloaf and mashed potatoes for her Christmas Day feast in jail, it has been revealed.

The accused sex trafficker will also turn 60 on Christmas Day but will be spending it behind bars after the jury in her case was sent home for Christmas.

Maxwell denies six federal sex charges, includingrecruiting and transporting underage girls on behalf of Jeffrey Epstein, her former boyfriend and a convicted sex offender, Standard reports.

She is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn, New York, since her arrest in July 2020, has been described by a judge as a “hellhole” and “like a third-world country”.

But despite its reputation, the prison’s Christmas menu includes a spread of beef meatloaf, gravy, mashed potatoes, tuna, potato chips, fresh fruit” and vegetable juice.

A former guard has also claimed that prisoners are traditionally given Christmas gifts of socks and peanuts.

Reports say the jail does not allow weekend visits, which will mean Maxwell will spend the festive holiday and her birthday alone.

Prison officials have to decide whether or not to keep Maxwell in a 10-foot-by-12-foot cell alone or house her with another female prisoner, according to The Sun.

A cellmate might help prevent her from attempting suicide, which prosecutors fear is a possibility after Epstein killed himself in jail in August 2019.

But ex-jailer Cameron Lindsay said the nature of her charges and her high profile will make her a target.

Speaking to Reuters, he claimed that injuring Maxwell “would be a badge of honour" for other prisoners.

He also said that going from the life of luxury by Epstein's side to life in prison is 'crushing' for her.

Mr Lindsay said: “You go from living a life like Maxwell to all of a sudden being in a situation where you’re being strip-searched and having people look into your body cavities.

“That is a crushing experience.”

Maxwell denies all the charges against her. She claims she has been made a scapegoat for Epstein's crimes because he is no longer around to answer them himself.

The jury is expected to return to the New York court to continue its deliberations on Monday.
