THE GRIEVING family of a young girl who died suddenly in a school playground have paid tribute to their “bright and beautiful” daughter.
Neve Parlett, 11, collapsed and died at Dicot Girls School in Oxfordshire on the morning of March 11, 2021.
Two years on her heartbroken mother has told of the moment she found out her daughter had died.
Mary had dropped the year seven pupil off for her first day back since the pandemic but at 12:20am she received a phone call from the school.
Mr Parlett explained: “We were only told the very bare minimum. They just said she had collapsed in the playground. We just thought she had fallen.
“I said I would just come to the school because it’s only round the corner, but they said they would send the police escort. That’s when I started panicking.
“When they arrived, I asked if they had any more information and they said that she had gone into cardiac arrest. It was out of the blue. I was in absolute shock.”
She met her husband Paul at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford – but they were told she had an inoperable brain aneurysm.
The pair were told there was nothing doctors could do for their daughter.
Mr Parlett said: “They were in tears, and we were in tears. It made us realise they were human as well.

“At the time, we were like, ‘there must be something you can do’. We were just desperate for anything.”
“It was very peaceful. She just slipped away, and it was just like she was asleep. We just couldn’t get our heads round it. We felt any minute she would wake up.
Last week on the second anniversary of Neve’s death, her family planted a pear tree, apple tree and primroses in her memory.
A memorial garden has also been created at Didcot Girls School.
Paul and Mary’s friend Vicky Lay is also running the London Marathon in her memory.
A Just Giving page reads: “Neve collapsed at school and never regained consciousness.
“She was a bright, vivacious, beautiful 11 year old girl who loved singing, books and her dogs (fur babies), but most of all her family and friends.
“She was loved beyond words and is missed immeasurably by so many.”
