Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter on Tuesday during the annual Groundhog Day ceremony in Pennsylvania.
The nationally renowned soothsaying rodent left his burrow in search of his shadow just before 7:30 a.m. — and found it, meaning winter is far from over.
The furry oracle’s prediction came even as flurries were still in the forecast Tuesday, following a brutal winter storm that dumped as much as 27 inches on parts on New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The yearly ritual, which dates back to 1887, was held virtually this year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In place of the usual crowd at Gobbler’s Knob park in Jefferson County, Phil was surrounded by cutouts of fans who had hoped to be there in person.
