Prince Harry has admitted in his and Meghan’s bombshell Netflix series that he misses the UK and ‘weird family gatherings’.

The Duke of Sussex was speaking in the last of three episodes that were released this morning.

Asked what he misses about being a working royal, he said: ‘I miss the weird family gatherings, when we are all sort of brought together under one roof for certain times of the year.’

He then added: ‘Being part of the institution meant I was in the UK. So I miss the UK, I miss my friends’, and admits that he has ‘lost a few friends as well’.

He and Meghan stepped down as working royals in 2020 and bought a $14million home in Montecito, California.

Harry also claimed he and Meghan came to the US because he had ‘outgrown’ the UK.

He added that his late mother, who was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997, would likely have chosen to eventually live in California.

Speaking while driving, he said: ‘I came here because I was changed. I changed to the point that I had outgrown my environment.

When Harry and Meghan lived in the UK, they attended family events including the traditional royal Christmas Day morning church service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk

‘Therefore this was the most obvious place to come. This is one of the places where I think my Mum was probably going to end up living, potentially.’

In the third episode of the Netflix series, released last week, Meghan recalled that year’s Christmas, saying it was ‘amazing’.

‘I remember so vividly the first Christmas at Sandringham,’ Meghan said. ‘Calling my mum, and she’s like, “How’s it going?”. And I said, “Oh my gosh, it’s amazing.”

‘It’s just like a big family like I always wanted,’ she added. ‘And there was just this constant movement and energy and fun.’

The final episode of Harry and Meghan’s Netflix series also reveals the moment Prince Harry shared a text from his brother Prince William with his wife amid the fallout from their ‘truth bomb’ interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In footage filmed in the days after the bombshell discussion with Winfrey in March last year, Harry is seen showing his wife his phone, before Meghan says: ‘Wow, H just got a text from his brother.’

Earlier in the episode, Harry accuses the Palace of ‘institutional gaslighting’ and likens his and Meghan’s experience to that of his mother, Princess Diana.

The episode opened with a video selfie in which the Duke of Sussex says ‘We are on the freedom flight’ as they fly from Canada to Los Angeles in March 2020, after they split from the royal family.
