Heritage High School shooting: Newport students evacuated as police respond to 'major incident'

A SHOOTING at a high school has prompted an evacuation as cops responded to the "major incident."

Police arrived at the scene on Monday morning after reports of a shooting.

Students were being evacuated and sent to the school's tennis court, cops confirmed. Parents were told to meet the students there.

Officer Brandon Maynard told WAVY that cops were gathering more information after arriving at the scene.

Michelle Price from Newport News Public Schools told the outlet that it was a "major incident."

Emergency responders were also on the scene, according to local reporters.

Achievable Dream Academy was placed on lockdown following the shooting.

There is no confirmation on any injuries or fatalities so far.
