How to set up and use Victoria’s vaccination check-in app as regional trial begins

The Victorian government announced on Sunday that trials will begin on the state’s vaccinated economy program.

The centrepiece is the updated Services Victoria smartphone app which will be able to see a fully-vaccinated person’s vaccination certificate so when you check in at a venue or shop, that process also shows you are vaccinated.

Because the process is new and will need some testing, from Monday trials will begin in several regional locations ahead of the state’s re-opening from lockdown, the government expects there will be technical issues and hopes the trial will sort them out.

It’s important to note, the trial doesn’t begin until midnight on Sunday, so nothing will work until then. Users will need the latest versions of the Services Victoria and Express Plus Medicare apps.

How do you set this up on your phone?

First, you need to be fully vaccinated and you need the latest versions of the Services Victoria app and the Express Plus Medicare app.

Your vaccination certificate should appear in your Medicare app within one to 10 days after you have your second dose.

Once that certificate shows, you should be able to press a button that says “add to check-in app” and then chose the Services Victoria app.

Once that link is made, when you check in at a venue or shop, you’ll get one tick for checking in and another tick that shows your certificate is valid.

What if I don’t use a smartphone to check in or don’t have a MyGov account?

For those who don’t have a smartphone and don’t have a MyGov account, you can request a hard copy of your vaccination statement from Services Australia on 1800 653 809, but it could take up to 14 days to get to you via the post.

If you have access to Medicare online through your MyGov account, you can access your immunisation history there.

It’s best to work out how you will handle this situation now so you will be ready to go when the state re-opens.

Where will they be doing this trial in regional Victoria?

Bass Coast – North Pier Hotel in Cowes and Churchill Island Cafe

Buloke – Terminus Hotel in Wycheproof

East Gippsland – East Gippsland Art Gallery in Bairnsdale, Lakes Squash and Movie Theatre in Lakes Entrance.

Greater Bendigo – Anglican Church of Australia in Flora Hill, Bendigo Art Gallery, Village Cinemas in Bendigo, Body Fit Training in Bendigo

Pyrenees – Avoca Hotel

Warrnambool – Darlings of Beauty, Roberts One Real Estate, Warrnambool Racing Club for a race meeting, Warrnambool Art Gallery.

What do you need to participate in this trial? Can you join in if you’ve only had one vaccine dose?

You either need the latest Services Victoria app with the link to your Express Plus Medicare app or show a printed version of your COVID-19 digital certificate.

If you’ve only had one vaccine dose, then you can show your immunisation history statement which should show your first dose, you will need to access this from Services Australia or from your MyGov account.
