Incredible video footage shows moment mom saves daughter, 2, from BEAR after excited tot ran towards predator

THIS is the incredible moment a mom saved her toddler daughter from a bear after she excitedly ran towards the predator in their backyard.

The unbelievable footage showed Samantha Martin whisking her daughter, Juniper, away after she spotted a black cub running along a concrete path in their back garden.

"Juniper, come back inside," Samantha is heard saying on home security footage at their Seattle home.

When mom Samantha realised what her daughter was looking it, she bolted out the door to fetch her.

"That's a bear!" the youngster shouted in excitement before sprinting towards the cub, whose apex predator mother was likely nearby.

As soon as she took off, her mother dashed across the room and scooped her up before the child was out of reach.

"I just panicked. I didn't really have a lot of thoughts in the moment so much as get the child and get back inside," Samantha told FOX 13.

"It was just a little baby bear, but my biggest concern wasn't necessarily the baby bear so much as I didn't know where the mom was and didn't know how she'd feel about two humans running towards her baby."

Juniper had been watching a movie when she spotted the baby bear and is thought to have secretly unlocked the patio door and snuck out.

Samantha sprinted for the two-year-old as she ran towards the bear, her favorite creature after learning how to identify them in kids' picture books.

Since then, Samantha has taught young Juniper about the dangers of bears and how they can interact with humans

"I did tell her the bear was dangerous and we've been watching National Geographic," Samantha said.

The family discovered their furry intruders had been eating food out of a now-destroyed bird feeder in the patio, which they've now gotten rid of.

Samantha also got a child safety lock installed to stop Juniper from running out alone again.

"I love birds, but I also don't want bears to continuously come into the yard, so I'm not putting the bird seed back up," she said.

The family live near a greenway and a local golf course known to be home to wildlife.

After the incident, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) alerted nearby residents, reminding them bears now coming out of hibernation in search of food.

They're called on people not to leave food hanging around outside.

"Bird feeders can provide a real attractant for bears and other wildlife…take down your bird feeders in the spring," said Chase Gunnell, a spokesperson for the WDFW.

Washington has a black bear population estimated to range between 25,000 and 30,000.

State park officials have advised anyone who crosses a bear not to run away but instead make their presence known by speaking in an assertive voice, sing or clap hands together.
