Jeremy Corbyn has been too upset to deal with Labour's antisemitism crisis 'properly', says Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry

JEREMY Corbyn has been too upset to deal with Labour’s antisemitism crisis “properly”, a key ally has said.

Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry went public yesterday to claim the Opposition boss has fallen short over the scandal that dogged him all year.

But issuing an excuse that raised eyebrows, the front bencher called for sympathy for her boss.

Ms Thornberry said yesterday: “When people accused Jeremy of being an antisemite, he was so upset, and as a result he has found it difficult to deal with the problem.

“He hasn’t dealt with it properly, but to call him antisemitic is wrong.”

The Shadow Cabinet minister also argued that party leaders are not “Gods, they aren’t perfect”.

But she admitted that the way Labour had behaved towards Jewish people’s fears over a tirade of abuse from Labour members had been “shameful”.

Ms Thornberry made the candid comments in an interview with another Corbyn ally, the founder of his Momentum movement Jon Lansman.

She blamed Labour’s antisemitism problem on new far left members who had backed pro-Palestine causes.

But she blamed them for “lazy, undisciplined thinking” for equating all Jews with Israel.
