  • But 40 minutes later a thief sneaks into the front garden and steals the box
  • The presenter posted the footage on Twitter branding the man a ‘porch pirate’
  • Viewers pointed out the suspected thief was walking past as the deliver driver hid the parcel

Jeremy Vine has shared shocking footage of the moment a thief stole a package from in front of his home just minutes after it was delivered.

A CCTV video shows a masked man walk into the front garden of the broadcaster’s London home and pinch the parcel left by a DHL driver in an agreed ‘safe place’.

The BBC Radio 2 presenter, 55, tweeted a clip of the theft, branding the man who pinched the item a ‘porch pirate’.

In the footage, captured in the lead up to Christmas, a DHL delivery driver is seen leaving a package in an unlocked lid crate at 11.25am.

Vine tweeted: ‘I got hit by a Porch Pirate a couple of days ago. At 1125 the @dhlexpressuk guy leaves a delivery in an agreed place; at 1207 the Pirate appears’

Just 42 minutes later, the video shows a man covered with a black hood walk in through the gated garden and pinch the package before making off.

To add insult to injury, the thief knocks on the door to see if anyone is home before heading off with the package in his hand.

He then asks followers how the ‘porch pirate’ knew so quickly where to look for the package to make for a smooth getaway.

‘Is he following the van around? He knew exactly where to go,’ Vine added. ‘Parcel stolen, box found ripped open 100yds away by kind neighbour.’

The question provoked a response from sharp-eyed viewers, with some pointing out that the alleged thief had walked past the property as the delivery driver was hiding the parcel.

‘Great spot! The Pirate is in the first clip too … now it makes total sense,’ Jeremy wrote, adding that it was probably ‘the last time I nominate a large open box as my safe place’.

Fans were shocked to see such a brazen act.

‘I can’t believe what I’m watching! The absolute cheek of it! And to knock on your door and pose as the delivery guy,’ one fan wrote on Twitter.

Vine has already had some unwanted visitors to his home this year, after the broadcaster reported anti-vaxxers turning up at his front door in October

Another added: ‘Don’t understand why he bothered knocking. May as well have just legged it.’

And a third commented: ‘Looking at fact that he walked past first they cycled back and was confused by brakes says to me that he stole the bike too.’
