Kate Middleton ‘risked backlash’ with candid revelations about parenting

Kate Middleton risked backlash when she when she candidly opened up about motherhood, a royal expert has claimed.

In 2020, Kate joined the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast to speak about her early years work.

An audio clip from the podcast showed host Giovanna Fletcher asking the Duchess if she struggled with "mum guilt".

In an honest reply, Kate answered: "Yes, absolutely."

She joked: "I think anyone who say they don't is actually lying.

"Even this morning, George and Charlotte were like, 'Mummy, how could you possibly not be dropping us off at school this morning?'"

Channel 5 documentary Kate: Our Queen in Waiting delved into what these revelations actually meant.

David Riley, the narrator, told viewers: "Kate's level of honesty when being interviewed for a parenting podcast was quite unlike any royal parenting revelations that had gone before.

"It offered up a rare insight into their family life."

And royal commentator Victoria Murphy explained there was a danger her comments risked backlash.

She said: "Kate touched on subjects like mum guilt. There was a bit of a risk there might be a backlash. People might say, 'Well, how can you relate to the struggles of ordinary people?'

"But I think the reason why that interview worked so well is because of the sincerity and the way that she lives her life."

Kate also talked about her decision to do “hypnobirthing” for her first pregnancy with Prince George, a method that has been mocked as “hippy dippy”.

Hypnobirthing is a method of pain management that can be used during labour and birth.

It uses a mixture of visualisation, relaxation and deep breathing techniques.

Kate has been open about suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, which causes severe vomiting, during her pregnancies.

She told the podcast: “It was through hyperemesis that I really realised the power of the mind over the body.

“I really had to try anything and everything to get through it.”
