Krispy Kreme superfans queue for THREE hours in anticipation of new store opening

KRISPY Kreme superfans queued for three hours in anticipation of a new store opening today.

The eager doughnut-lovers joined the line at the box-shaped stand in the Buttermarket Centre, Ipswich, Suffolk, at 7am this morning.

University students Beth Seddon and Bethany Thwaites waited outside in the rain until the shopping mall opened and were the first customers.

As the first person to be served, 18-year-old Beth won a Krispy Kreme gold card, which entitles her to two dozen free doughnuts every month for a year.

She told the Ipswich Star: "It’s a fantastic feeling to be the first in line and to get my hands on a Krispy Kreme Gold Card – I’ll be sharing my dozens with my family and friends.”

Bethany, 21, added: “I think we are just a bit crazy. We were sitting outside in the rain for quite a bit.”

The company's operations manager, Ricky Turner, said they expect to sell around 2,000 doughnuts today.

Last year Aldi fans queued for hours in the rain when a new store opened its doors in Worcester.

The first 100 in got golden tickets which they could swap for prizes.

Those in the queue were allowed to leave shopping bags to keep their place while used the toilet at a nearby McDonald’s and a DJ played music to shoppers to keep spirits up.

It comes as a survey last week revealed the supermarket's shortest queuing times.

Waiting times in Sainsbury’s averaged one minute, 40 seconds, while in Asda queuing times were two minutes and 14 seconds.

Sainsbury’s was the quickest for queues of all five big supermarkets including Morrisons, Tesco, Waitrose and Asda.
