Labour climate tsar who inspired Starmer’s £28billion green investment plans is Extinction Rebellion’s former legal strategy co-ordinator

  • Tobias Garnett now works for Labour climate change spokesman Ed Miliband 
  • He was previously the co-ordinator of Extinction Rebellion’s legal strategy team  

The climate tsar who partly inspired Labour’s £28billion green investment plans previously carried out legal work for Extinction Rebellion, it has emerged.

Tobias Garnett was hired as a political adviser and now works for Labour climate change spokesman Ed Miliband. 

But the lawyer’s past work included a stint as co-ordinator of Extinction Rebellion’s legal strategy team.

Weeks before he was taken on by Labour in 2020, Mr Garnett defended the protest group’s right to blockade areas around Parliament, reported The Sun.

After winning a High Court challenge which allowed the activists to continue their disruptive demonstrations, he said he was ‘delighted’.

Last night Tory deputy chairman Lee Anderson said it was ‘no surprise’ that Labour ‘has recruited another pro-disruption advisor’ after it emerged that Just Stop Oil backer Dale Vince has donated £1.5million to the party. 

He added: ‘This is anarchy in the making and will not end well.’

Sir Iain Duncan Smith told City AM: ‘Somebody who is so obviously intent on a particular purpose, which includes deliberately interfering into people’s daily livelihoods, is surely not fit for advising a national political party.’
